See The Reason Dangote Dropped Out Of World’s Top 100 Billionaires In 2016

While the world’s wealthiest people are ending 2016 with $237 billion more than they had at the start of the year, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote is sadly not part of the party as he lost a whopping $4.9 billion of his fortune.

The industialist who was formely the world’s 46th-richest man, dropped out of the top 100 list to No. 112 with a total fortune of $10.4 billion. The drop according to reports was due to falling oil prices and naira devaluation.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, disappointing economic data from China at the beginning, the U.K.’s vote to leave the European Union in the middle and the election of billionaire Donald Trump at the end, saw the biggest fortunes on the planet whipsawed through $4.8 trillion of daily net worth gains and losses during the year, rising 5.7 percent to $4.4 trillion by the close of trading Dec. 27.

Look At Nigerians Musician Thay Did Not Shine In 2016

Some stars came into the Nigerian music scene and like meteorite, they were up in the sky, shining like light and having so many fans endeared to their heats.

But in 2016, it was as if their light started dwindling. When so many thought they might have been cooking something in the studio hoping such would be released before the end of the year, these stars lived on past glory while new acts sprang up and some of their contemporaries shone brighter.

Omawumi

Not just a few believed Omawunmi would excel going by her performance during the Idols reality show that shot her into limelight in 2007.

She has cemented her name as an achiever and force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian entertainment scene. Her sophomore album, ‘Lasso of Truth,’ which was released in 2015 was said to be a commercial success.

Omawumi managed to break that jinx where just male artistes had held sway in the music scene for a long time.
But fast forward to 2016, not much was heard from the singer musically. Thank God for social media anyway, but for Instagram where the babe would always post one or two stuff, her presence would have dwindled considerably.

Yes, she managed to release a song with Grammy Award winner, Angelique Kidjo but did it have a very positive impact in her career in 2016? No!

Anyway, fans still love her and hope that not only would she change her hairstyle in 2017, she would also come up with better and bigger hits.

Waje

And like her bestfriend Omawumi, Waje was almost pushed to the background this year.

Save for ‘The Voice Nigeria’ which kind of kept her busy as a judge in the reality show, Waje’s impact in the music scene was almost insignificant.

Waje has been busier on social media than in the studio this year. Yes, fans got to know more about her grown up daughter and her cool dresses which she proudly showed off every now and then. And of course, she also proudly showed off her figure as she transformed from a plus-sized babe to a much trimmer lady.

The last time Waje released her self-titled album was in May 2013. The album was critically acclaimed but ever since then, she has been releasing single tracks.

This year, the music diva has been able to release only one track which she titled ‘Ominiknowest.’ It was once reported that the singer planned to take a four year break from music. So the question is, has she started the hiatus?

Chidinma

Chidinma ‘Miss Kedike’ Ekile is a typical example of the expression that great things come in small packages.

The Project Fame winner started strong after the competition winning any award that she was nominated for. One of such milestone awards is the Kora and she was the first female musician to get to the number one spot on the MTV Base top ten countdown. With her trailblazing success, she won the admiration of many as several celebrities have openly confessed that they have a crush on the petite damsel.

The girl didn’t allow her small frame to deter her from conquering the music industry. But that was long ago.

This year, Chidinma was busier arousing people’s curiosity as to whether she is dating artiste, Flavour or not especially when she deleted all the pictures on her social media page save for hers and Flavour’s.

It seems that the star is fast fizzling out of the industry. Not much has been heard from the singer musically this year. Her recent song, ‘Fall in Love,’ which she released some weeks ago does not have the same buzz that always characterises songs.

So many fans expect Chidinma to wake up in 2017.

D’banj

‘Oh, how the mighty has fallen’ would certainly be the expression on so many peoples’ minds especially when they think of the self-acclaimed entertainer and Kokomaster, D’banj.

With his ‘nothing-dey-happen’ attitude since he broke up from his partner and friend Don Jazzy, D’banj has yet to make any strong impact musically.

But thank God for his song ‘Emergency’ which was released early in the year, it was a good work and so many people felt D’banj had finally survived the break-up.

Alas, his ‘Focus,’ ‘If no be God,’ ‘Breaking New’ and ‘Gifted’ didn’t make any impact at all. D’banj needs to step up his game in 2017, otherwise his career would land in Emergency Room!

Iyanya

Well, thank God for ‘Krukere,’ nobody would have known Iyanya apart from the fact that he was a sensation at the then Project Fame competition.

Another thing that stood him out is his sexy body which makes ladies- old and young – go wild! But how has that affected his career in 2016?

His controversial exit from Ubi Franklin’s Triple M Records made more headlines than the release of his following songs, ‘Type of woman,’ ‘Nothing Mega,’ ‘Yoga song,’ ‘Sukumma,’ ‘Why,’ and ‘Heartbeat.’ Just a handful of people would have ‘felt’ the songs.

With his new marriage to Don Jazzy’s Mavin, who knows, 2017 might be a better year as hopefully, the ace producer would give Iyanya his Midas Touch.

Wande Coal

It seems Wande Coal found his sound late this year with the new song, ‘Iskaba,’ which he released few weeks ago. Before then, nothing much was heard from the young man. His first album, ‘Mushin to Mo’hit’ was a collector’s item but his sophomore album, ‘Wanted,’ which was released in 2015 was not really wanted by a lot of people as many have described the album as a flop.

Hopefully 2017 would be better for the dreadlock wearing singer.

Haram Shekau’s Quran, Flag In Sambisa.(photo)

The Nigerian Army yesterday, claims it recovered Abubakar
Shekau’s Qur’an and flag in Camp Zero, the Boko Haram’s
Headquarters in Sambisa forest.
Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Theatre Commander of Operation
Lafiya Dole, said this while giving newsmen update on

“ Operation Rescue Final ” in Maiduguri.

  • “We believe that the Holy Book and the flag were

abandoned by Abubakar Shekau while he escaped. The
Book will be taken to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen.
Tukur Burutai, for onward presentation to Mr President.
“We have also made a lot of arrests. Our troops in Damboa
arrested about 15 Boko Haram members. We also arrested
one Musa from Potiskum on Christmas day which was
Dec.25.

  • “On Dec. 26 our troops also intercepted two Boko Haram

suspects in Maiduguri.
We, therefore, warn residents of the state to be wary of
people coming to hide in and around their houses.
We are also warning residents to report any suspected
Boko Haram members hiding in their houses to the
relevant security agencies and any failure to do that would
tantamount to supporting and sympathising with the
sect’s activities,’’ Irabor said.

on Thursday disputing a claim by the Nigerian army that the
terrorist group had been uprooted from its Sambisa Forest
stronghold. In a 25-minutes video shared online, Shekau
who
spoke in both Hausa and Arabic, said;

We are safe. We have not been flushed out of anywhere.
And tactics and strategies cannot reveal our location
except if Allah wills by his decree. You should not be
telling lies to the people. If you indeed crushed us, how
can you see me like this? How many times have you killed
us in your bogus death? Our aim is to establish an
Islamic Caliphate and we have our own Caliphate, we are
not part of Nigeria” Shekau said in the video, flanked by
masked armed fighters.
It’s not clear where and when the video was shot though

Shekau claimed it wa shot on Christmas day

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Reveals Glo as Leader in New Data Subscriptions

Report from the telecoms regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has revealed that Globacom has again maintained its supremacy in the data sector, having emerged the only operator to garner an increase in internet subscriptions in the month of October, 2016.

This was revealed in the latest review published on the NCC website, and it showed that the network grew its internet customer base to 27,185,552 million in October from 26,887,929  in September. This indicates an increase of 297,623 during the month.

According to observers, Globacom’s consistent dominance of the sub sector is partly  attributable to the nationwide rollout of the 4G LTE advanced network in October , 2016. With the launch of the service, millions of subscribers on the Glo network are able to enjoy instant efficient broadband internet connectivity.

The Commission stated on its website that the total number of internet users on the networks of the four major operators shrank by 378,015 from 93.5m in September to 93.1m in October.

It was MTN and Etisalat that accounted for the reductions in the number of customers surfing the net in the country during the period, while Airtel did not record any increase as its figures for the two months were the same.

The report showed that MTN had 32,464,779 million subscribers browsing the internet on its network in October, which is a decrease of 306,480 internet subscribers from the September figure of 32,771,259.

NCC documented that Airtel had 18,832,238 million internet users in October, the same figure it recorded in September. On its part, Etisalat had 14,693,492 million data customers in October, showing a loss of 369,158 compared to the 15,062,650 million users it recorded in the preceding month of September.

On the other hand, the CDMA sector lost 13,664 internet users, after recording 38,309 in October compared to the 51,973 figure recorded in September.

U.S. Election – For Interfering Into Election Obama Expels 35 Russian Diplomats, Closes Down 2 Russian Compounds

U.S. President Barack Obama has ordered the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats including shutting down of two Russian compounds used for Russian intelligence-gathering in the U.S. in a number of actions announced on Thursday, giving them 72 hours to leave the country. President Barack Obama had vowed action against Russia amid US accusations it directed hacks against the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Russia has denied any involvement and called the decision “ungrounded”.

Obama’s speech stated that the actions were “in response to Russia’s malicious cyber activity and harassment.”

“Today, I have ordered a number of actions in response to the Russian government’s aggressive harassment of U.S. officials and cyber operations aimed at U.S. election.

These actions follow repeated private and public warnings that we have issued to the Russian government, and are a necessary and appropriate response to efforts to harm U.S. interests in violation of established international norms of behaviour.

The U.S State Department is also shutting down two Russian compounds, in Maryland and New York, used by Russian personnel for intelligence-related purposes, and is declaring ‘persona non grata’ on 35 Russian intelligence operatives.

Finally, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are releasing declassified technical information on Russian civilian and military intelligence service cyber activity.

This is to help network defenders in the U.S. and abroad to identify, detect, and disrupt Russia’s global campaign of malicious cyber activities,” Obama said.

According to him, all Americans should be alarmed by Russia’s actions. Obama added that “in October, my Administration publicized our assessment that Russia took actions intended to interfere with the U.S. election process.”

“These data theft and disclosure activities could only have been directed by the highest levels of the Russian government. Moreover, our diplomats have experienced unacceptable level of harassment in Moscow by Russian security services and police over the last year. Such activities have consequences,” Obama said.

He explained that he had issued an executive order that provided additional authority for responding to certain cyber activity aimed at interfering with or undermining America’s election processes and institutions, or those of its allies or partners.

“Using this new authority, I have sanctioned nine entities and individuals: the Main Intelligence Directorate (Glavnoe Razedyvatelnoe Upravelenie or GRU) and the Federal Security Service (Federalnaya Sluzhba Bezopasnosti or FSB), two Russian intelligence services; four individual officers of the GRU; and three companies that provided material support to the GRU’s cyber operations. In addition, the Secretary of the Treasury is designating two Russian individuals for using cyber-enabled means to cause misappropriation of funds and personal identifying information.”

The U.S. president explained that “these actions are not the sum total of our response to Russia’s aggressive activities.”

“We will continue to take actions at a time and place of our choosing, some of which will not be publicised.

In addition to holding Russia accountable for what it has done, the United States and friends and allies around the world must work together to oppose Russia’s efforts to undermine established international norms of behaviour, and interfere with democratic governance.

To that end, my Administration will be providing a report to Congress in the coming days about Russia’s efforts to interfere in our election, as well as malicious cyber activity related to our election cycle in previous elections,” Obama said

The move follows calls from senior US senators to sanction Russian officials who are believed to have played a role in the hacking, which some lawmakers referred to as America’s “political Pearl Harbor”. Republican senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who led the calls for sanctions, said they “intend to lead the effort in the new Congress to impose stronger sanctions on Russia”.

A Kremlin spokesman told journalists in Moscow that President Vladimir Putin would consider retaliatory measures.

Dimitry Peskov said the actions were “a manifestation of unpredictable and aggressive foreign policy”, and called them “ungrounded and not legal”.

And the Russian embassy in the UK tweeted a visual gag calling the Obama presidency a lame duck.

Lagos Governor Ambode To Grant Amnesty To Cultists

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the government is ready to grant amnesty to those willing to renounce their membership of cult groups and turn a new leaf. Ambode, who spoke in Ikorodu at the ongoing ‘One Lagos Fiesta,’ said his administration had perfected plans to rehabilitate criminals, who were ready to be law-abiding, with a view to making them contribute meaningfully to the society.
The governor expressed concern over the spate of cult clashes, attacks and other crimes in the Ikorodu area, adding that although the government had the capacity to deal with such crimes, amnesty being offered would encourage many troublemakers to turn away from their old ways and embrace new lives.

“In the last few months, we have been having challenges of cultism in the Ikorodu area, and a lot of issues that relate to kidnapping. So, we are going to strike a deal tonight; we are going to say no to cultism and then we are going to encourage all of you. We are going to grant amnesty to anyone who is a cult member. I want to use the whole of 2017 to rehabilitate all those who have been doing bad things; we are going to provide money and we are going to provide jobs,” Ambode said.

The governor also stressed the importance of education and urged youths in the area to strive to be educated, and thereafter pursue their dreams.

Addressing the mammoth crowd who came out for the fiesta, Ambode urged parents to talk to their children on the need to shun all forms of violence and crime.

Court sentences son of former House of Reps member to death by hanging

A High court sitting in Katsina State has sentenced 32 year old Mu’ammar Tukur, son of former House of Representatives member and District Head of Bakori, to death by hanging for culpable homicide.

Tukur was dragged before the court for using a knife to stab one Shafir Muktar to death on April 21st 2008 during a fight between him and some other young men at a football viewing center.

Delivering judgment in the case today, the presiding judge, Justice Abbas Bawale, said the argument put forward by the convict's counsel, AbdulAziz Olagoke, were unsustainable.

Bawale ‎said that the accused went into hiding between 2008 and 2013 after committing the crime and was arrested at the grave yard during the funeral of his deceased mother.

He added that Tukur's explanation that he was provoked to commit the crime was not satisfactory because he left the scene and came with the metallic instrument to commit the crime.

The judge said the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt as required by law and sentenced the convict to death by hanging. He stressed that the plea for leniency could not be entertained because the court’s discretion was blocked by law and directed that the plea should be set to the state governor.

"BSc, Masters degrees, eight professional certificates" Inspiring story of Nigerian man who wrote JAMB 7 times

Mocked, criticized and called a failure after writing JAMB seven times without gaining admission into the university, and even contemplated suicide, Precious Ogechi Ogbueri, went on to earn a BSc, Masters degrees, seven professional certificates and and to crown it all, he qualified as a Chartered Environmentalist in the UK.  Below is his inspiring story:

After my secondary education, I decided to further my studies.
I wrote the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th JAMB exams and they were all cancelled. I decided to take the bull by the horn. I went to Enugu State University for a pre-degree program. On the completion of the program, I was offered a course in faculty of Science but the cultism in the institution as at then was unbearable for me, having being attacked twice. I decided to use the 5th JAMB that was released to study at University of Port Harcourt. Then ASUU had a protracted strike that lasted for over six months, I needed to write a 6th JAMB and I scored 274 but that score couldn’t offer me admissions as the two JAMBS were combined because the strike entered another year.
After the first 6yrs at home, WAEC too was cancelling my results and I wrote WAEC/NECO four times. I was frustrated, mocked, criticized and called a failure. Some of my classmates were already youth Corpers. Many out of pity told me to quit because school wasn’t for me. The criticisms, mockery and name calling from people that didn’t know what I was passing through compounded my issues and I started thinking of quitting/suicide.

One evening, my brother in-law/mentor told me “Ogechi nobody can frustrate or determine the outcome of your life except you, don’t quit trying, you’ll be whatever you want to be” I repeated that to myself over a hundred times that night and I assumed the position of a CEO in my life.

I enrolled for another pre-degree program in University of Port Harcourt, and wrote the 7th JAMB and it was also canceled but thank God I passed the BASIC program. So to gain admissions to do a bachelors program, I wrote JAMB 7times, WAEC/NECO 4times and Pre-degree 2times.

However, when I finally entered University, I passed Rivers State government scholarship exams to study abroad but few weeks to departure, another government took over in 2007 and cancelled the scholarship. But I told myself I must study in Nigeria and abroad…..

People called me a failure but, I don’t know if I am still a failure, if school is for me now or not, or if am still bewitched as people said..

All I can remember now is that I have done BSc in Nigeria, Masters in Safety and Environmental Management in UK, have seven additional professional certifications, qualified as a Chartered Environmentalist in UK and have worked both in Nigeria & Scotland.

I have learnt that setbacks are actually strongholds in disguise if we don’t quit trying.
I have learnt that persistence wears off every resistance.
I have also learnt as a Christian that if your faith says Yes, God won’t say No, only be DETERMINED.
I give God ALL the glory and shame to the devil.

Purported Boko Haram video is nothing but mere terrorists propaganda - Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has described the purported new video released by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau on Thursday, as mere propaganda.
A statement issued by Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, said the attention of the Nigerian Army is drawn to a video clip released by Boko Haram Terrorist group from an undisclosed location a while ago, showing its purported leader, making spurious claims.

"While effort is on going to subject the video for further forensic analysis, the Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that it has captured and occupied the last known stronghold of the terrorists group in the Sambisa forest. We would like to reassure the public that this video is nothing but mere terrorists propaganda aimed at creating fear in the mind of people and to remain relevant.
"Therefore, there is no cause for alarm, more so as concerted effort in clearing the vestiges of Boko Haram terrorists wherever they might be hiding is still ongoing. Our gallant troops deployed in various parts of the north east have continued to intensify search for all persons associated with Boko Haram terrorist group with a view to bring them to justice. Consequently, the public are hereby enjoined to go about their normal lawful business, remain vigilant and security conscious. They should also report any suspicious person or group of persons to security agencies."
In the 25-minutes video, Shekau, flanked by masked armed fighters, first made a lengthy introduction in Arabic before he started talking in Hausa.
"We are safe. We have not been flushed out of anywhere. And tactics and strategies cannot reveal our location except if Allah wills by his wills by his decree. You should not be telling lies to the people. If you indeed crushed us, how can you see me like this? How many times have you killed us in your bogus death? Our aim is to establish an Islamic Caliphate and we have our own Caliphate, we are not part of Nigeria"
He also took a shot a President Buhari:
"I thank Allah. I thank Allah. I made a short preamble because of the Nigerian transgressors who deceived their forefathers and grandparents. Allah says they are merely the tails of pigs and monkeys. My message for you transgressors. You Buhari, your age is about 72, since they put you in this nonsense you should repent. You should fear Allah, and if you don’t repent you will see," he said.

‘I Will Wait For My Chance To Play In Man City’- Super Eagles Striker Iheanancho Says

Kelechi Iheanacho has disclosed that he will wait for his chance at Manchester City following the return of first choice striker Sergio Aguero from a four-match ban.

Pep Guardiola welcomes Aguero back to his squad with the arrival of Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus providing more competition to their striking department. But the Nigeria international, who was on target against Hull City, has stated that he will wait for his chance at the club.

“We are happy to have Sergio back in the team, but I need patience to get my chance,”

Iheanacho told Manchester Evening News.

“Whoever the manager picks is going to play, but our attacking players can play in so many different positions so he has plenty of choices. Personally, I have to wait for my chance.

“There is always a lot of competition at a big club like Manchester City, so I need to keep working hard, having patience and hoping for the best,”

he concluded.

The 20-year-old has scored four goals in 12 English Premier League games for Guardiola’s side and will be hoping to get a run-out when they face second-placed Liverpool on December 31.

EFCC Reaveals - ‘Rice Is Not Plastic But It Is Unsuitable For Consumption

Actor RMD And Wife Jumobi Celebrate 16th Wedding Anniversary

Actor Richard Mofe Damijo -RMD in a new post has showered praises on his Wife Jumobi nee Adegbesan on the occasion of their wedding anniversary.

He wrote:

“Jumobi to the world, Aabike to me. The mother of my kids, love of my life, my rock, my shield, my baby, my woman, my everything. I want to say thank you but that’s not enough, I want to say I love you that’s still not enough, I want to say God bless you and that also seems inadequate for all you have been to me and the kids.

You have kept me grounded, loved me unconditionally, prayed with me and for me and gone without to ensure I shine. You know how when close friends and family ask “How is bros?” and you respond with “He’s there, I still haven’t killed him in his sleep yet” they laugh at the humour but I smile with admiration because I know the truth. The truth is that you have consistently tolerated me and all my excesses and for that I am extremely grateful.

I don’t know how I would have done all I have done and I’m doing without your support.

Thank you for deliberately taking a back seat to make me shine.

You know baby, God has put to shame those who said we wouldn’t last. It’s amazing how far we have come. 16years and counting ain’t bad is it now?

Yea, I know they are not enough but I’ll still go ahead and say THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU and GOD BLESS YOU my ABK. Happy wedding anniversary baby.”

Just like yesterday when they got married and Jumobi left AIT (Lunch Break). How time flies! Happy Anniversary to the Damijos. Wish them many more beautiful years.

Much ado about MMM By Adewale Kupoluyi

I have read with deep concern, the various accounts shared by many Nigerians on their sad experiences on the Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox Ponzi scheme that has created a lot of apprehension and uncertainty in the country. Because of this unfortunate development, millions of patrons of the Ponzi scheme have been thrown into confusion having placed a one-month ban on all withdrawals starting from December 13. The MMM has claimed that it had frozen the accounts to avoid preventable challenges during the Yuletide in the purported negative media reports given to the scheme.

The MMM is not new in the business world. It is on record that the organisation began as an office equipment company in Moscow, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in the 1980s, before moving into the financial sector when the scheme collapsed and many investors lost their money. The MMM was able to win the hearts of many Nigerians with its ‘30 per cent per month’s return-on-investment in addition to other acquirable bonuses. But the hard truth is that despite the mouth-watering offer, the risks associated with the scheme seem to be more. No wonder, the company was “wise” enough to have advised customers to “use your #SpareMoney only (and) don’t be unnecessarily greedy.” What this expression tells me is that the operators of the scheme have cleverly and tactically insulated themselves from any undue liability and legal encumbrances. The scheme has since been declared illegal by the Federal Government.

Before coming to Nigeria, the MMM had similarly operated in South Africa and Zimbabwe with the same business model, which claimed a 30 per cent per monthly return-on-investment through a ‘social financial network’ until the accounts of its clients were frozen. Similarly, in 2016, the Chinese government banned the scheme on the grounds that it was a Ponzi scheme, unregistered and hence, was tagged fraudulent. What the organisation does is to manage payments in such a way that quick returns to the first investors from money invested are given to later investors in a manner described as robbing Peter to pay Paul.

With the controversies surrounding the modus operandi of the MMM, Nigerians seem to have forgotten so fast the lessons learnt from the failed operations of “wonder banks” in which billions of naira went down the drain under similar circumstances, despite warnings by the National Assembly, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as well as the Securities and Exchange Commission, suggesting that the scheme was fraudulent, but then, many Nigerians still patronised it. Three major reasons could be attributed to this doggedness. First is the current economic situation in the country that has brought about untold and high incidence of unemployment, inflation and poverty. Hence, people would want to do anything humanly possible to survive at a great risk.

Second is the secretive and greedy nature of many of the participants, who kept the offer to themselves, perhaps, to prevent others from benefitting, thus making them highly vulnerable in the process of secretly dealing with the MMM. Third is the weak regulatory framework that allows such a system to exist without having to pass through the necessary due diligence, checks and screening. No wonder, the MMM had the audacity to tell the Nigerian government to look at the benefits of the scheme to the over three million Nigerians within its one year of operation in the country, claiming that the scheme was the “only source of livelihood for many people”.

The ripple effects of the MMM invasion have begun telling on the people. Not a few “investors” were reported to have either committed suicide or attempted such. For instance, one is the story of a man from Benue State, who was found to have ingested insecticide, having invested N300,000 meant for his wedding in the dicey scheme! From the survey that I recently conducted, many people seem to be affected by the loss but would rather prefer to remain silent rather than lament their ordeals while many would rather prefer to keep mute for the fear of being stigmatised. After all, they never told anyone before going into the scheme! That is usually the problem with those who fall victims to fraudsters. They hardly inform others they are deeply engrossed in such a deal until everything crumbles and danger becomes the inevitable.

Despite the ordeal happening now, it must be appreciated that people should be free to invest in whatever business interest they so desire. That is why I won’t be surprised that the MMM may not be the only active Ponzi scheme around. There is the likelihood that many of such programmes exist under various names and brands. Whenever people are committing their resources into such deals, others hardly know of such until things begin to unfold and they cry out of the untold hardship and negative consequences that may arise. It is the secret nature of the patronage of the Ponzi schemes that makes many innocent people to lose their head earned resources and savings, thereby increasing the level of poverty in the land.

As a way forward, regulatory agencies should do more by helping the citizens in beaming their searchlights on other schemes to verify what is happening to them before they become another source of national problem, source of worry and tragedy. The whole scenario bordering on how the MMM has been managed has shown that the economic problems that encourage people to look for money at all cost, is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Governments should come together to see how common problems could be discussed with a view to finding sustainable alternative to Ponzi schemes that would add value to the real sectors of the economy through spending.

It is only hoped that by January, the scheme would come alive again as it has planned to do by offering another opportunity for investors to access their funds. If this becomes a reality, they should pull out. I won’t be surprised that in order to sustain their interest in the scheme, an additional accrual of over 30 per cent could be dangled to lure participants into keeping their keeping funds in the scheme and even put in more resources after January. I really think they should not be lured again, in case the opportunity represents itself. They should look for other means of making money despite the economic recession currently facing the country.

a big lesson for all is that people should learn to be open, as much as possible, to those they could trust. I kept wondering why a very close friend of mine of many years should now be crying wolf now after the bitter experience when I was never consulted before deciding to join and invest in the scheme ab initio. Government should do more sensitisation of the citizens on the dangers that could befall them whenever they are confronted with issues that concern financial intelligence and breach of public trust. It is only hoped that the MMM would afford its depositors another opportunity to have a rethink. It’s just a matter of days for that to be or not to be!

Woman Kills Husband Over Christmas Food

While Nigerians were celebrating Christmas in their homes, a housewife, Christiana Odo, allegedly killed her husband, Rominus, for failing to provide money for the family during the celebration.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened at the couple’s home on London Barber Street, Majidun, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that Christiana, 37, had asked the husband for money for food to celebrate Christmas, but the husband had said he didn’t have any money.

This was said to have led to a quarrel between the couple, which degenerated into a fight.

Our correspondent was told that in the ensuing scuffle, Christiana, a mother of three, picked a kitchen knife, with which she stabbed the husband to death.

A police source said the incident happened around 5.20pm, adding that it threw the community into confusion.

He said, “The woman asked the man for money for food, but the man turned her down, saying he didn’t have money. This led to an argument and the man hit her. They fought and the woman, in anger, went into the kitchen and got a knife with which she stabbed him to death.

“What attracted neighbours was the man’s scream for help as he was drenched in blood. The woman said it was not intentional.”

The landlord was said to have reported the case to policemen from the Owode Onirin division, who arrested the suspect.

The victim’s corpse was reportedly deposited in the Ikorodu General Hospital’s morgue.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, saying the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

She said, “It was a resident that came to report at the station that the man fought with his wife. In the process, the woman stabbed him to death. The police visited and photographed the scene. The suspect was arrested and the corpse deposited in a morgue. The case is still under investigation as we await the result of the autopsy. Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the SCIID.”

HOW HAZARD SCORED HAT-TRICK DRUNK – RIO MAVUDA

Eden Hazard’s captain at Lille, Rio Mavuba, has revealed that the now Chelsea star was drunk when he netted his famous hat-trick during his last game for the French side in 2012.

Hazard starred in his former side’s 4-1 demolition of Nancy in May 2012, netting a hat-trick in the first half-hour of the game at the Stade Metropole.

According to Mavuba the Belgian had gone out for drinks the night before in the knowledge that it would be his final game for Lille, with a move to Chelsea already arranged for the summer.

The midfielder added that Hazard had not slept a wink prior to the game.

Mavuba told reporters, “We were certain to finish third and we were facing Nancy the following day.

“It was Hazard’s last match with Lille and he wanted to organise a little something.

“We decided to go have a little drink. A little drink that dragged on somewhat. The following morning, Eden was still drunk.

“That evening against Nancy, not even with 30 minutes played, Eden had already bagged a hat-trick.

“The guy had not even slept, he drank for the entire night and he put away a hat-trick in 30 minutes.

“We all looked at each other [and] we told ourselves that this guy was the real deal.”

Since joining Chelsea, Hazard has since gone on to win the Premier League with Chelsea and has been crowned the  PFA player  of the year

Botha: It would be unbelievable to represent Australia

Johan Botha has captained his native South Africa and played in 123 international matches for the Proteas, but says it would be "unbelievable" to represent Australia at the highest level.

Born in Johannesburg and a regular feature in South Africa's limited-overs teams between 2005 and 2012, Botha moved to Australia four years ago and was granted citizenship by his adopted country last month.

The 34-year-old has impressed in the Big Bash League for Sydney Sixers and is considered an outside bet to earn selection in Australia's squad for an upcoming Test tour of India.

"It would be unbelievable," Botha is quoted as saying by Cricket Australia's website when asked what it would mean to play for the nation.

"It's a team I've watched for a long time, especially growing up when South Africa didn't play international cricket.

"Australia was my favourite team to watch. To do that I think it would feel a little bit unreal but we'll have to wait and see.

"I suppose there might be a chance, a very slim chance and as long as there's that, there's a little chance. But it's up to Cricket Australia.

"I just need to hopefully help the Sixers win some games and if it comes my way, great. If it doesn't then I'm going to give the Sixers everything I've got."

Australia selector Mark Waugh described Botha as an "unusual off-spinner" during a Big Bash commentary stint on Tuesday, adding: "Tell you what, he wouldn't be the worst in India would he?"

The delay in the appointments of members of the boards

“You know that the reconstitution began methodically, from

Read What This Man Said About Domestic Violence

I bring up issues like this to better our society. It’s only a
mad man that will wake up in the morning, make love to his
wife, eat with her and the next thing he starts beating her
for being a good wife.

If we keep waiting for troubles to happen in marriages and
we react by calling the husband Coward and other such
names, it would keep leading to more deaths like we had in
Ibadan where Yewande was said to have stabbed her
husband to death, after injuring him the previous night.
There is also a recent case of a wife who stabbed her
husband to death in Lagos on Christmas day.
These things don’t just happen, but men can’t speak up
about the insults and abuse they are suffering in the hands
of bad wives because society will laugh and even call them
‘woman-wrapper’.
This orientation MUST change. We should encourage
couples to live in mutual respect and not to be imposing it
on men to take every nonsense, until he’s injured or stabbed
to death in worst cases.
Everyone has their elastic limits. You can’t keep insulting a
man and keep saying he should walk away. That is a wrong
approach. If you are not ok just leave the marriage, rather
than use your bad mouth to turn your husband into a wife
beater.
The truth is bitter, but it must be said.
